I don't have a huge gear selection, but over the years I have accumultaed and kept (and also lost) a few things
I suppose this Sony A6400 is my main digital camera. Technically it's really good...in a cold, heartless way. So, no I dont love it and find myself averse to picking it up. There's something about it that irritates me.
(and just between you and me, not the prettiest camera...)
On the other hand I LOVE this camera
The Pentax K-x design is 15 years old, It's a wopping 12 megapixels, old school larger body but fits in my hand beautifully and just feels right And that viewfinder: the joy of looking at your subject through glass.
Did I mention I love it?
And here's one I'm learning to love, only because I just bought it.
The Olympus Pen is a series of half frame film cameras, beautifully made in Olympus fashion. Yes, we're talking about 1/2 a 35mm film: 18mm X 24mm. The D3 was first built in 1965 with a 32mm f/1.7 lens. The build quality on this has to be seen and felt to be believed.
The meter does no work on this so I have to manually calculate exposure.
Pentax has just released their 17 model which is a modern half frame camera to great fanfare but lets not forget these things have been around - in Olympus' case -since 1959.
OK, you may have noticed a theme here.
The Olympus Om-1 legendary 35mm film camera. Introduced in 1979 as the world's smallest and lightest 35mm single-lens reflex camera. Another camera to love, and I have two that I bought new quite possibly in London or Munich. I can't remember. These started a love affair with Olympus and I dutifully purchased the models that came after, up to the Om-4 ( as a pair of black bodied delights) took all of these cameras around Europe and the US at various times. Still a joy to shoot with and despite my reservations about small cameras such as the Sony A6400 (see blog) these are just perfect.
Side note (literally): I recently attended a camera expo and the current range of Om digital cameras were there. They are still beautifully made and a joy to hold but micro four thirds is just not my thing.
Yashica Yashicaflex TLR 6 x 6.
120 size film, guess your exposure, guess your focus also as its a little hard to see on the ground glass.
Press the shutter button and hope.
